Throughout the school year our students go on experiential and educational field trips to experience nature and enrich the curriculum. Students also discover and experience winter sports such as ice fishing, tobogganing, and skiing. The grades 5 to 8 also participate in an annual overnight camping trip on Lake Simcoe.

This is often the first exposure to camping for many of our students. They contribute to meal preparation, camp site set up and take down. Graduating students are engaged to work on their yearbook and their graduation trip. They actively fundraise throughout the year to contribute towards these exciting milestones.

These experiences build memories which last a lifetime as our alumni return year after year to reconnect with past teachers and the everlasting memories of their JDOHSS education.

Joe Dwek Ohr HaEmet prides itself in offering a full range of after school activities. These include boys and girls basketball and boys’ martial arts. The sport programs reflect student interests and can change. To help out parents and students we have a homework and extended-hours daycare program.

To encourage Joe Dwek Ohr HaEmet students to contribute to the local Jewish community they participate in events like the Passover Food Drive and visiting the elderly. To develop their connection to Jews in Israel, they create Shana Tova cards for Israeli soldiers, collect for needy communities and support local Israeli Tzedaka initiatives. Community awareness is encouraged through annual campaigns.

Our Bat Mitzvah Program provides Grade Six Girls with a stimulating and inspiring religious and cultural experience. The program gives the girls an opportunity to be part of enriching discussions and meaningful discoveries of the true meaning of Bat Mitzvah. The girls will learn to face the future as dedicated, secure and educated Jewish women who are proud of their unique identities. Each bat mitzvah girl creates a keepsake of memories depicting their personal past and their new focus for their future identity as a Bat Yisrael.

An incentive program that encourages our 5-8 Boys to continue their Torah studies during vacations. Students will be acknowledged for their effort at the year-end Grade 8 Graduation ceremony.

An after school program combining Sephardic Heritage enrichment, Torah learning with extracurricular recreational activities.

Our Mom’s Association marks this special day each month with seasonal crafts and Hessed projects for our girls while the boys are treated to a meaningful father/son Rosh Hodesh Tefila-Breakfast.
