General Studies Principal

REPORTS TO: MENAHEL (HEAD OF SCHOOL / PRINCIPAL OF JUDAIC STUDIES)

Position Overview

The General Studies Principal is responsible for the leadership, supervision, and continuous improvement of the school's General Studies program. Working in close partnership with the Menahel, the General Studies Principal ensures that the academic program meets high standards of educational excellence while aligning with the school's Torah values, mission, and hashkafa.

This role requires strong instructional leadership, effective faculty management, and close collaboration with the Judaic Studies administration to support the holistic development of each talmid and talmida.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

  • Oversee the General Studies curriculum across all relevant grade levels, ensuring alignment with Ontario standards, accreditation requirements, and educational best practices.
  • Lead curriculum development, implementation, and ongoing review in subjects including literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, and other General Studies disciplines.
  • Promote a culture of academic excellence, rigor, and student engagement.
  • Analyze student performance data to inform instructional decisions and drive program improvement.

Faculty Supervision and Development

  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate General Studies faculty in coordination with the Menahel and school administration.
  • Provide instructional coaching, mentorship, and meaningful professional development opportunities.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to support effective teaching and classroom management.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and growth-oriented faculty culture.

Student Support and School Climate

  • Collaborate with teachers, guidance staff, and administration to support the academic, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Address student academic concerns and, when appropriate, participate in parent meetings related to General Studies.
  • Uphold school policies related to discipline, attendance, and academic expectations.
  • Help cultivate a positive, orderly, and nurturing learning environment consistent with Torah values.

Collaboration and Administration

  • Partner closely with the Menahel to ensure coordination and harmony between General Studies and Limudei Kodesh.
  • Participate in administrative meetings, strategic planning, and school-wide initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding the General Studies philosophy, expectations, and student progress.
  • Assist with scheduling, budgeting, textbook selection, and resource allocation for General Studies.

Compliance and Professional Standards

  • Ensure compliance with provincial and local education regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Support accreditation processes and external evaluations as required.
  • Remain current with developments in education, pedagogy, curriculum design, and assessment practices.

Qualifications

  • Principal's Qualification Program (PQP) certification or equivalent.
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching and/or administrative certification, as required by provincial regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in educational leadership, preferably within a Jewish day school or similar educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of General Studies curriculum and instructional best practices.
  • Respect for and commitment to Orthodox Jewish values and the mission of the school.
